Top 10 things to do in Prague

Prague, or Praha as the locals call it, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city is successful in preserving many of its earliest features while aging extremely well. Anything from the cobblestone streets to the matching red roofs. The city itself will surely be a delight for anybody’s viewing pleasure. Anywhere you walk, you will catch a glimpse of the city’s rich history. Prague also happens to be one of the most popular tourist destination in Europe and can be clearly seen why. If you ever happen to be in the area, be sure to make Prague one of your most important stops! You won’t regret it, and while you’re here.

10. Catch a view of the city from afar (Petrin Tower)

One of the best locations to view this beautiful city is on top the Petrin Tower just west of the city center. The tower lies on the top of Petrin Hill which also makes it a great hike to get up. During our time in Prague, everything was extremely accessible by foot and this was no exception.

On top the Eiffel Tower like lookout, you can catch an amazing view of all the major landmarks of Prague including; the Charles Bridge, the Prague Castle, the Vltava river and amazing scenic view of Prague from afar! This is one perspective that you certainly can’t get anywhere else!

9. Pay a visit to Namesti Republiky (city square)

What is a visit to Prague without visiting the city square? This center is comparatively more modern to the Old Town Square but is certainly worth a visit! This is where you’ll find your large department stores to satisfy all you shopping desires. You will find everything you need in this square while marveling at the beautiful architecture around you. There is also a daily farmers market in the square that sells fresh local produce and handmade goods. We happened to stay extremely close to the square and came by every morning to grab a quick bite. 8. Try some of the world famous Czech Pilsner

The Czech has always been known worldwide for their beer. Luckily for you, Prague also happens to be the capital city of Czech Republic. A trip to Prague wouldn’t be complete if you didn’t get your hands on some of the famous Czech Pilsner. Don’t miss out!

7. Stop by Havel’s Market

Havel’s Market is located at the city center and is a common spot for both tourists and locals. You can find anything from wooden toys and puppets to flowers and vegetables. This is a great spot to get all your souvenirs.  Open from 9 am to 6 pm daily, you will be sure to find something you like here.

6. Catch an Opera at the National Theatre

Even if you’re not into Operas and such, which I clearly am not. I came here solely for the experience and was not disappointed! We felt it was certainly fitting for a visit to Prague. 5. Spend an afternoon at the Old Town Square

This is where all the magic happens and definitely where you’ll remember Prague the most. For one, you have a head on view of St. Nicholas Church and Old Town Hall. Next, you’ll probably spend most of your time marvelling at the beautiful buildings around you. I suggest you spend an afternoon or day just wandering around the small winding streets nearby. You’ll truly get the sense of Prague. This is definitely something you need to experience for yourself. Don’t be afraid to slow things down and grab a drink or lunch at a nearby restaurant. After all, you’re in Prague.

4. Rent a paddle boat on the Vltava River

This was one of my favourite experiences of Prague. You can rent a paddle boat anywhere along the east side of the Vltava River in between the Dancing House and Charles Bridge. It cost about 70 Czech Koruna/hour and that is just enough to see all the stops on the Vltava.

From the river, you can get a great view of the Prague Castle, an alternate view of Charles Bridge while even catching sights of the Dancing House and National Theater. This is a fun experience that I recommend for everybody to try! You can even bring along some of the famous Czech Pilsner and just have a good time on the river.

3. View Prague on top of the Old Town Hall

This is undoubtedly the best view of the city. Unlike most cities where it’s best viewed from afar, Prague is most beautiful when viewed from the center. Old Town Hall is located right in the heart of Old Town Square where you’ll be able to get a bird eyes view of the city. Tickets cost 130 koruna and is a long winding walk up the tower. It can get quite crowded at the top but is well worth the view!

From the top, you can see all the wonderfully coordinated buildings of Prague with the signature red roofs and colourful exteriors. This is where Prague is most beautiful when viewed from on top. You can now truly appreciate the beautiful surroundings as you walk around the city. On top of this look out, you can also catch most of the landmarks such as the Charles Bridge and the Prague Castle. This is surely one spot you cannot miss out on!

2. Take a stroll along the Charles Bridge

This is one of the most well-known bridges in all of Europe. The bridge spans over the Vltava river and is usually crowded with tourists. A trip to Prague would not be complete without taking a stroll across this bridge. While you’re walking, you’ll be marveling at the Baroque statues on either side. Then before you know it you’ll arrive at the towers at either end and enter the small charming streets of Prague.

Also, at the east end of the bridge is also a great spot to take a picture of the Prague Castle. This could be difficult when the bridge is busy so I suggest to arrive early morning if you want the perfect shot.

1. Wander around the Prague Castle

Another one and definitely the most recommended must do is a visit to the Prague Castle. Located on top a small hill, this is one of the most iconic locations in all of Prague. The castle itself is filled with history as it is the official residence of the president of the Czech Republic. Previously it has served as a seat of power for kings of Bohemia and even Roman emperors. The castle complex is huge and would take a day in itself to explore.

One of the most iconic parts of the castle is St. Vitus Cathedral, which is probably the face you see in most pictures.

Once again, a visit to Prague would not be complete if you don’t pay a visit to the Prague Castle.

At the end of the day, there’s not much you can do wrong in Prague. You can get a sense of this beautiful city from just wandering around on the streets. Overall Prague would be a shame to miss out on when given the chance. Come see for yourself the amazing city that is Prague.
